Stephen Downes Presentation at SUNY Empire State College’s Center for Distance Leaning Annual Conference

Stephen Downes, an internationally recognized authority on distance and online learning who introduced the concept of e-learning 2.0 and, with George Siemens, developed and defined the concept of “Connectivism.”

Downes’ presentation focused both the concept and the practical application of “Connectivism,” which is the use of a social network approach to deliver open online courses.

Downes made his presentation as part of the college’s Center for Distance Learning 40th anniversary edition annual conference.

Paul Boyer Presentation

Paul Boyer Presentation at SUNY Empire State College’s Center for Distance Learning Annual Conference

Paul Boyer, adjunct mentor at the Center for Distance Learning, alumni (’86) and son of former SUNY Chancellor Ernest L. Boyer, the driving and force behind the creation of the college, reflected on the college’s formative years and discussed his own experience both learning and mentoring at the college.

In addition to an undergraduate degree from the college, Boyer holds a doctorate from Penn State University and he has taught at every manner of higher education institution from small community colleges to large state universities both onsite and online.

Boyer made his presentation as part of the college’s Center for Distance Learning 40th anniversary edition annual conference.
