Sir John Daniel Delivers 40th Anniversary Boyer Family Lecture at SUNY Empire State College

“Open Learning: Reflecting on the Past, Celebrating the Present, and Creating the Future”

Sir John Daniel, chief executive officer of the Commonwealth of Learning, and one of the world’s leading authorities on open and distance education delivered the Ernest L. Boyer, Sr. Family Lecture at SUNY Empire State College’s 40th Anniversary All College Conference.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher joined college President Alan R. Davis and SUNY Empire State College faculty, students and staff at the lecture.

The Boyer Lecture Series was established in 2004 by Kathryn Boyer in memory and honor of her late husband.  Ernest L. Boyer was chancellor of the SUNY System from 1970 to 1977 and was instrumental in the founding of Empire State College in 1971.

The lecture series honors not only the former SUNY chancellor, but also his son Stephen Paul Boyer, ’86, who is now an adjunct mentor at the college’s Center for Distance Learning, grandson Gabriel Boyer, ’04 and of course wife Kathryn who graduated in 1978.
